What is International Women's Day?

International Women's Day is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for gender equity.Significant activity is witnessed worldwide as groups come together to celebrate women's achievements or rally for women's equality.

When is international women's day?

Internationals women's day is every year on the 8th of March. The very first one was on February 28th in New York hosted and organized by the Socialist Party of America at the suggestion of activist Theresa Malkiel.

    In 1917,women in Russia honoured this day by goimg on strike for "bread and peace" as a way to protwest gener parity. The leader of Russia, Czar Nicholas II wasn't pleased do told the military to shoot any women who refused to stand down. But this didn't intimidate women one bit which lead to the governmant granting women to vote. Each year there's a specific theme for international women's day and the past ones for eg; 2021 was "Let's all choose to challenge" or #ChoseToChallenge.
